The dangers of sleep apnea: A rundown

Updated: Mar 2, 2022

Most people opt to disregard sleep apnea thinking that snoring is the problem that can be accommodated. But it’s a delusion as snoring is just a symptom resulting from sleep apnea. Sleep apnea implies breath pauses usually lasting for more than 10 seconds with high frequency.

If left untreated, the condition may lead to a great number of problems sometimes to very serious ones. The truth is that sleep apnea is not as simple as it may seem. Sometimes it even can be life-threatening. There are two main effects of this disorder and both of them may have terrible consequences.

• Bad sleep quality. Frequent waking and sleep disturbance result in excessive sleepiness and physical fatigue. This can be dangerous when driving or operating equipment in the workplace. Those suffering from sleep apnea may as well have psychological problems like irritability, depression, etc.

• Lack of oxygen. Low oxygen level leads to strain in the cardiovascular system, which, in turn, may result in high blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, irregular heart rhythm, stroke, and heart attack.

Being more damaging and serious than others may think, sleep apnea can turn everyday life into a nightmare. So, if you suffer any signs of this disorder see a doctor and start a treatment plan as soon as possible.
